Mehtaphor writes...Metaphor offers a menu inspired by Asian urban tastes and scents and wrapped in Jehangir Mehta's singular chef voice. There's a point of view here and a chef who touches every dish. The new restaurant has several intimate dining areas, including a dessert-cocktail bar, a tiny loungy dining area, a true cocktail bar, a time worn wooden communal table fully wired for laptops and internet access, and a lovely small dining room. The entire restaurant is awash in glass frontage. The clean, modern shell is accented by warm golden print fabric on banquettes (with little cubbyholes for purses, bags, briefcases, whatnot...), intricate wooden shutters half way up the expansive windows. Metaphor plans to stay accessible with a menu of $7, $12 and $15 plates; and a wine list of $30-45 bottles and $9-10. From January 2011 a special "Gastro-Kids After School" menu will be available from 2.45 p.m. to 4.45 p.m. which will be more educational than expensive. info@MehtaphorNYC.com
